The 2001-2002 cycle of protests in a local key. Revisiting the period from Río Cuarto city
Abstract
Since the return to democracy, Argentine society has been part of a sequence of protest cycles whose repertoires, actors and dynamics have grabbed the attention of various analysts with diverse theoretical positions and multiple disciplinary fields. Academic production on the subject, has mainly focused on the characteristics of collective actions in metropolitan and capital areas, but very little is known about the same phenomenon in those intermediate cities in the interior of the country. Based on this statement, the article aims to address the study of social protests in Rio Cuarto during the cycle 2001-2002, looking forward to recognize their dynamics, the main mobilized actors, the demands and repertoires. This study has a descriptive scope with an emphasis on quantitative methodology, considering the local journal as its main source. Based on this, our research considers relevant quantitative information, as much as qualitative interpretations about the local protests during the period. In this way, we aim to emphasize the specificities of collective action in local spaces.
