Boiling Latin America: between the colonial tradition and the future with a historical perspective
Abstract
In a boiling world, the Latin American scene is even more complicated if one considers the damage generated by the colonial practices that are still in force, the role of the mass media, the historical inequality of the region, racism; and the deep and constant dehistoricization of Latin America by the neoliberal discourse. Our societies have changed; however, neoliberalism and the strength of neoliberal subjectivity remains very deep and difficult to remove. The increasingly violent right wing systematically carried out and told a dehistoricized discourse, which contributed to the weakening of the joint efforts of the previous governments belonging to the “progressive cycle”. These governments could not (for various reasons) complete their progressive agenda, which announced a change of era, since the colonial roots are truly deep and difficult to uproot. Therefore, one of the first questions to review is the importance of recover a historical perspective focused on Latin America.
